In need of a warm vacation!!

   Posted by: Raymond

Now even my wife is complaining about the weather.  She usually likes fall but this year, summer seemed to slip right by us and we didn’t really have a summer like we usually do.  Normally, we would take two or even three vacations though the summer but this year, I really don’t know what happened.  She’s been talking about wanting to take one of the Sharm El Sheikh Holidays that she found online.  I have to be honest, it sounds wonderful to me too.  The question I have is about the weather?

I personally would love to check out Algarve Holidays in Portugal.  I’m sure the weather there would be great since the southern hemisphere has spring when we have fall.  Besides, we have already been to Egypt but never to Portugal.  From what I have seen, it’s an absolutely beautiful place and why go somewhere you’ve already been?  Why not try something new, like maybe one of the really nice Benidorm Holidays.  We’ve never been there either.  We’ll just have to take our time and find somewhere new to take a vacation.  I just want to explore a new city or country, not one we’ve already been to, you know?

It’s the last weekend before school starts

   Posted by: Raymond

One things for sure, I’m not going to the beach this weekend.  With it being the last weekend before school starts back, everyone will be headed for the beach for what might be their last visit.  I’m sure that Labor Day weekend will be worse but I’ll just be glad for everything to get back to normal with the children back in school.

There have been too many kids running around unsupervised because the parents have to work but can’t afford someone to watch out for their children.  Sure there are all types of activities they could get involved in like summer camps but that too takes money.  Hopefully the economy will turn around soon and people won’t have to struggle so hard.

Decided to go fishing today

   Posted by: Raymond

The day started off a bit rainy and chilly but I really needed to get out some so I decided to go fishing.  It was a bit uncomfortable at first but then the sun came out and all was right in the world.  The fish bit pretty good and I caught a good run of bass.  No I don’t bring bass home.  I put them safely back into the water.  That way there will be fish for the next generation.

I never take something I’m not going to eat and bass just isn’t one of my favorite fish to eat.  I personally prefer salt water fish but a good mess of strippers from the lake or the ocean, well you just can’t beat that.  I wasn’t stripper fishing today though.  I just wanted to be one with nature and relax a little and that’s just what I did.  It was a great day.

Lego Christmas Party

   Posted by: Raymond

All of us coaches and mentors decided to get together and have a Christmas party for our Lego team.  It’s a Lego Christmas party and what a party it was too.  We all chipped in together and got each of the kids a nice Lego set like the ‘Indiana Jones’ sets or the shark attack set.  I can’t remember what the proper name is for the sets but the kids loved them.

We have set up to meet once a month all year long until the announce what the next challenge will be for next years competition.  They we will dive in head first into the project and hopefully do better next year.  Each of us adults involved is trying to drum up mentors, money to help with projects, and even food donated for our meetings.  I figure if Dominoes will give us pizza once a month then Pizza hut will another month.  Can’t let the competition beat you out on doing something good for kids education, ya know.

Well I feel so much of the Christmas spirit this year that I know in my heart it will be full of love and joy.  Those are far more important than any present you can give.

Lego League update

   Posted by: Raymond

Well I am having a blast working with the kids on the First Lego League team.  Our competition is on December 3rd so we are running out of time.  It’s going great so far.  We have come up with a name for the team.  It’s I Bots.  I standing for Intelligent, Bots for the robotic Lego of course.  The logo is going to be a large eye with the eyeball being the earth instead of just a regular eyeball.  That is to symbolize us having an eye on our planet.  Pretty cool huh?  The kids came up with that.

I must admit, I am quite impressed with not only the ability of these kids but also with their ideas for the challenge.  It’s supposed to be about helping global warming.  We’re focusing on the use of Sorgum to make Ethanol to help with emissions to keep down global warming.  Pretty smart kids and something that I can see myself working with for many years.  I can’t wait for the competition.  I hope we do well, well I hope the kids do well because they have worked so hard.
